Dark Sector Kids Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last few days playing Dark Sector Kids, and I have to say it's been a wild ride. I went into this game not knowing what to expect, I mean the title alone had me raising an eyebrow. I'd heard of Dark Sector before, it's a third-person shooter from a few years back, but I'd never actually played it. So when I saw that there was a kids version, I was curious to see how they'd tone down the violence and still manage to make the game fun.
At first, I was a bit disappointed. The gameplay is pretty similar to the original Dark Sector, which isn't a bad thing, but it felt like they'd just taken out all the gore and called it a day. The main character, Hayden, still has his sweet glaive, but instead of chopping up bad guys, he's just kind of... knocking them out, I guess. It's a bit jarring, to be honest. But as I kept playing, I started to appreciate the little changes they'd made to make the game more kid-friendly. The enemies are more cartoonish, and the levels are designed to be a bit more straightforward, which makes it easier for younger players to navigate.
One thing that really stood out to me was the storyline. They've taken the basic premise of the original game and adapted it to be more suitable for kids. Instead of a sinister plot to take over the world, the bad guys are just trying to steal all the candy in the city. It's ridiculous, but it's also kind of charming. Hayden's still a bit of a brooding protagonist, but he's more of a goofy teenager in this version, which makes him a bit more relatable to younger players. The voice acting is still top-notch, and the characters all have their own distinct personalities, which adds to the game's charm.
As I kept playing, I started to notice some of the little things that the developers had done to make the game more accessible to kids. There are these little tutorial levels that teach you how to use Hayden's abilities, and they're actually really helpful. The game also has this system where Hayden can collect these little power-ups that give him temporary boosts, like super speed or invincibility. It's a bit overpowered, to be honest, but it's also really fun to use. The levels are also designed to be a bit more forgiving, with more health packs and fewer insta-kill traps, which makes it easier for kids to make progress without getting frustrated.
But even with all the changes, the game still feels like Dark Sector at its core. The combat is still satisfying, even if it's not as gory, and the levels are still designed to be a bit challenging. I found myself getting really into the game, even though I was playing a kids version. It's definitely not as serious as the original, but it's still a lot of fun. And I think that's what's most important - the game is fun, and it's suitable for kids. If you're a parent looking for a game to play with your kids, or if you're just a fan of the original Dark Sector, I'd definitely recommend checking out Dark Sector Kids.
Overall, I'm really surprised by how much I enjoyed Dark Sector Kids. It's not a perfect game, and it's definitely not as complex as the original, but it's still a lot of fun. And I think that's what matters most - the game is enjoyable, and it's suitable for kids. If you're looking for a game to play with your kids, or if you're just a fan of the original, I'd definitely recommend checking out Dark Sector Kids. Just don't expect it to be as intense as the original, and you'll be golden.
