RelicRun Review & Gameplay Guide

I just spent the last few days playing RelicRun and I have to say, it's been a real mixed bag for me. I went into it with pretty high expectations, I'd seen some trailers and gameplay videos that made it look like a lot of fun, but now that I've actually played it I'm not entirely sure how I feel. The gameplay is definitely the strongest part of the game, it's a roguelike platformer with some really tight controls and some clever level design. I loved the feeling of exploration and discovery that came with playing through each level, and the variety of power-ups and relics you can collect is pretty impressive.

But despite how much I enjoyed the gameplay, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. The story is basically non-existent, you're just a character who's running through these levels collecting relics and fighting enemies, but there's no real narrative or character development to speak of. I know that's not always a deal-breaker for games like this, but it felt like a missed opportunity to me. The game's world and characters have a lot of potential, but it's never really explored or fleshed out in any meaningful way.

The graphics and sound design are also a bit of a letdown. The game's visuals are pretty basic, with some low-res textures and some pretty simple character models. The soundtrack is similarly underwhelming, it's just a bunch of generic electronic music that doesn't really add much to the game. I know that this is an indie game and you can't expect AAA-level production values, but it still feels like more could have been done to make the game look and sound more polished.

One thing that did impress me about RelicRun is its difficulty curve. The game starts off pretty easy, but as you progress through the levels it gets steadily harder. I liked that the game didn't hold my hand or coddle me, it just threw me into the deep end and expected me to figure things out for myself. The game also has a pretty good sense of progression, you can collect experience points and level up your character, which gives you access to new abilities and upgrades. It's a simple system, but it works well and it's satisfying to see your character get stronger and more capable as you play.

Despite my mixed feelings about RelicRun, I do think it's worth playing. If you're a fan of roguelike platformers or just looking for something to play in short bursts, this might be a good choice. The game is pretty addictive, I found myself playing for hours at a time without even realizing it. And while it's not perfect, the game does have a certain charm to it, it's just a fun, lighthearted experience that's easy to pick up and play. I just wish that the developers had put a bit more effort into fleshing out the game's world and story, because I think that could have made it really special.

Overall, I'd say that RelicRun is a solid, if unremarkable game. It's not going to blow you away with its graphics or storytelling, but it's a fun, challenging experience that's worth checking out if you're in the mood for something a bit different. I'd recommend it to fans of the genre, or to anyone who's just looking for a quick, casual gaming experience. Just don't go in expecting a masterpiece, because RelicRun is definitely a game with its fair share of flaws and shortcomings.
