Seaweed Aqua Review & Gameplay Guide

I just spent the last few days playing Seaweed Aqua and I'm still trying to process my thoughts on it. I went into this game not really knowing what to expect, the title doesn't really give much away and the screenshots I saw before playing looked pretty but didn't really show off any gameplay. So I was a bit apprehensive at first, but I'm always down to try out something new and see if it can surprise me. Overall I'd say Seaweed Aqua is a bit of a mixed bag, there are some really great ideas in here but they don't always come together as well as I'd like.

One thing that really stood out to me from the start was the game's visuals, the underwater world you explore is absolutely gorgeous. The seaweed sways back and forth in the current, the fish dart around and the sun shines down through the water, it's really immersive. The soundtrack is also pretty great, it's all very relaxing and fits the atmosphere of the game perfectly. I found myself just swimming around and exploring the ocean floor for ages, taking in all the little details and just enjoying the scenery. It's definitely a game that's all about the experience, rather than the gameplay itself.

But when it comes to the actual gameplay, things start to get a bit more hit or miss. The controls are pretty simple, you just swim around and interact with things using a context sensitive button. It works well enough, but sometimes the camera can be a bit finicky and it's easy to get stuck on a rock or something. The game is also pretty short, I beat it in around 4 hours and that was with taking my time to explore and doing all the side quests. I'm not really sure if it's worth the price they're asking, to be honest. I feel like I'd have been happier if it was a bit cheaper, or if there was more content to keep me playing.

Despite the game's short length and some minor control issues, I did really enjoy my time with Seaweed Aqua. The story is pretty interesting, it's all about this group of creatures who live in the ocean and are trying to restore their home after some kind of disaster. It's not super complex or anything, but it's got a lot of heart and the characters are all pretty well developed. I also loved the sense of discovery, as you swim around and find new areas and secrets. It's a really cool feeling, like you're uncovering something that nobody else has seen before.

I think my biggest problem with Seaweed Aqua is that it feels like it's just scratching the surface of what it could be. The game's world is so rich and detailed, and there are so many cool ideas and mechanics that are introduced but never really fleshed out. I'd love to see a sequel or an expansion that builds on what's here and adds more depth to the gameplay. As it stands, it's a pretty short and simple experience, but one that's still worth checking out if you're a fan of exploration games or just looking for something relaxing to play.

Overall, I'd say Seaweed Aqua is a game that's worth playing, but maybe not at full price. If you can find it on sale or bundled with some other games, I'd definitely recommend checking it out. The visuals and soundtrack are top notch, and the sense of discovery and exploration is really great. Just be aware that it's a pretty short experience, and the gameplay can be a bit simplistic at times. Still, I'm glad I played it and I'm hoping the developers will build on what they've created here and make something even better in the future.
